Types of Pianos we are equipped to move
The art of moving pianos depends a lot on what kind of you have. Keyboard, upright or grand ? Keyboards can usually be moved inside their own boxes, so when buying one we recommend you keep the original packaging. If you don't we have some ready made boxes available for pick up at any of our locations or we can deliver them to you anywhere for a nominal delivery fee. We do not recommend moving keyboards in standard blankets as there might be some dust on them and that could get into the keyboard keys. If no packaging material is used and an profesional moving blanket is the only solution, bubble wrap or cellophane should be used to cover the keyboard before wrapping it into the moving blanket. For office moves, computer keyboards should be packed similarly to regular items and do not require the special care of keyboard instruments.
Upright Piano Moves
Upright pianos are the most common kind of piano moves request we get . They might be relatively compact but they are also fairly heavy so it is recommended to hire some reputable movers to in order to limit damage to the upright piano itself but also to walls/surroundings and possibly physical injury. The best way to move an upright piano is with a skid and 3-4 movers. Uprights are fairly compact so access is rarely a problem, however some buildings are notorious for very tight corners and hallways, in some cases the piano might need to be moved through the balcony or in some extreme cases from the roof. In such cases a crane might be needed since hoisting the it with cables from the balcony(can be done for large couches also) would stress the hand rails and could be very hazardous.
Grand Piano Moves
This is a specialized kind of service and requires top of the line equipment but most importantly the expertise of experienced and qualified grand piano moving experts. Unlike the upright instruments, boxes and packing supplies can't be used but crating or 3 blanket and wrapping can be utilized. Because of the value and fragility of these high gloss enamel instruments, the blankets must be securely taped and then strapped to the securily. The legs have to come off and the piano needs to be tilted at a 90 degree angle. It must be rolled or carried vertically versus it's normal horizontal position. Skid(s), dolly (ies) and a crew of at least 4 experts must be present. After execution of the move a retuning will be required.
Scheduling your Piano Move in Vancouver
In Vancouver things get pretty hectic at the end of the month. So it is important to plan and reserve well ahead in advance because it requires a block of time of more than 3-4 hours. It is recommended to try to book your piano move mid month (5th-20th of the month). At the end of the month we get too busy and resources can get stretched to their limits. If you must absolutely execute your piano move at the end of the month it is highly recommended to reserve a morning spot. That way the movers will be fresh and full of energy. Later in the day and they might be tired and exhausted.

Due to the value of pianos we recommend you get extra private insurance for your move. While we have some insurance coverage it never hurts to have more to be on the safe side. Before execution of the move the estimator will go around the piano and visually inspect any pre-existing damage, you then approve and sign the form and keep it for insurance purposes.
